TENERIFE AEROPUERTO NORTE

Once you visit this location it will be very difficult to forget

This spectacular location called "Cliffs of Los Gigantes or simply Los Gigantes", is a coastal town located in the municipality of Santiago del Teide, in the south of the island of Tenerife, eleven kilometers from the urban area of Santiago del Teide. Los Gigantes is the westernmost city on Tenerife's coastal highway and, with its 3,000 inhabitants, belongs to the beautiful municipality of Santiago de Teide. This once small and dreamy fishing village has become a very popular tourist center in recent years. Los Gigantes is located on the second highest cliff in Europe, in the "Cliffs of Los Gigantes", the "cliffs of the giants" and therefore has its name. These rocky cliffs made of black volcanic rock drop up to 450 meters vertically into the Atlantic and are a fascinating point of attraction. On the cliffs from the Archipenque viewpoint you can enjoy a wonderful view of the westernmost point of the island, the "Punta de Teno" with its lighthouse, as well as the neighboring islands of La Gomera and La Palma. At the time of the indigenous peoples, the so-called Guanches, these lava rocks represented an infernal wall and were an insurmountable obstacle to reaching the interior. Directly below the giants there is a small beach called Playa de los Guios with black sand, which is definitely worth visiting. But the sea also offers its visitors a real adventure. A fascinating underwater world is hidden at a depth of approximately 30 meters. Of note is the annual community-organized diving competition, which takes place here in Los Gigantes. Diving courses are offered for beginners and advanced. Los Gigantes has more than three hundred sunny days a year. Mainly English citizens live here, who bought apartments and flats here and exchanged the warm climate of the Canary Islands for the humid and cold climate of England. The place has visibly grown together with the neighboring town of Puerto de Santiago and has a small marina, many shops and good restaurants. It is also the starting point for many boat trips to the cliffs of the giants to observe them from the boat or to dive. With a little luck, you can see dolphins and whales on a boat trip.
